Østfold is a coastal region in southeastern Norway with mild summers around 20°C (68°F) and cold winters around -5°C (23°F). It's famous for the 17th-century Fredriksten Fortress in Halden and the star-shaped fortress town of Fredrikstad, plus the scenic Oslofjord and Glomma river. In summer you can sail the fjord or kayak the Glomma, while winter brings cross-country skiing near the river and exploring historic fortifications under snow.
